Brooke created SLP Mentor in My Pocket for three main reasons:
It's simple and quick!
All members get immediate access to the microlearning library, MedSLPedia. The always-growing library allows us to learn from each other's questions. Win-win!
Library + Questions members can submit mentoring questions. The video and/or written response to questions are added to MedSLPedia on a monthly basis, along with any relevant resources and downloads.
Library: Anyone in SLP/SLT/SP. Students are always welcome to learn from the library, too.
Questions + Library: Practicing SLPs/SLTs/SPs, including clinical fellows. Students may not subscribe to Library + Questions.
SLP Mentor in My Pocket provides insights that go beyond what can be learned in a classroom or course; the goal is to help clinicians bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to help you get unstuck with tricky cases.
Our microlearning & mentoring program doesn't replace coursework, and SLPs/SPs/SLTs using this service are expected to have at least foundational knowledge in the field. We may occasionally recommend courses in our responses if we feel you could use additional, formal education in a topic area.
Our mentors are practicing Medical SLPs with decades of experience caring for adults in medical settings across the continuum. They're active mentors in the SLP world, whether in clinic or online, and are consistently sought out to answer fellow SLPs' clinical questions.
While our mentors are highly qualified across diverse patient populations, they serve as primary mentors in certain topic areas to give you the best experience possible. As Mentor in My Pocket continues to grow, so will our core group of vetted mentors.
Brooke Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP is the primary mentor for the majority of topics.
Chad Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP is the primary mentor in laryngectomy / TEP.
Absolutely! You can ask questions at any time that’s convenient for you. We review and respond to questions on a monthly basis, aiming to answer as many as possible. Even if a specific question isn’t addressed directly, our responses to common and impactful questions are added to MedSLPedia: Microlearning Library for ongoing reference.
Responses are always kind and professional. To accommodate different learning styles, responses are provided in both audio/video and written form when appropriate. Some responses may include a resource such as a download, and additional references are provided when indicated.
Questions not answered each month will remain in the queue. We focus on prioritizing the most common and impactful queries, and these may be added to MedSLPedia for broader benefit.
SLP Mentor in My Pocket is designed for flexible, asynchronous learning. If you need immediate assistance, we recommend browsing MedSLPedia: Microlearning Library, where you'll find quick, practical answers to many common clinical questions. The library is continually updated with new content based on user queries.
For personalized, timely guidance, you may book a private consultation with Brooke.
It's a breeze! You simply ask through your dashboard. The ability to ask questions is included in the questions + library plan.
We strive to provide comprehensive support, though some questions may be less likely to receive direct responses. These include:
Yes! Please note that, for liability purposes, you may not submit questions asked of you by students, or ask questions directly on their behalf.

Nope! The beauty of asynchronous mentoring is that you can ask your question any time, and it'll be answered by a mentor at the next opportunity. It doesn’t get more convenient than that! Our mentors have decades of clinical experience working in the USA healthcare system.
The privacy and security of patients and clients is paramount. You may not ask questions containing any identifying information (PHI).
No. This service is offered for educational purposes only for SLPs/SPs/SLTs; your expertise and licensure are key. When you use Mentor in My Pocket, you agree to all terms and conditions and release the mentors, this website, and the company(ies) associated with this website from liability.
