The Hip Bone's Connected to the Hyoid Bone:
Body Systems & Swallowing

As Medical Speech-Language Pathologists, it's imperative that we have an understanding of the influences of the body systems on swallowing... and the potential influences our recommendations might have on our patients' body systems.

Adopting this whole-body approach will greatly improve your practice, and will help you to provide better patient care, skilled SLP services, and appropriate referrals to other specialists. The crucial information in this course is directly applicable no matter how new or experienced a clinician you are, and is right for you whether you're in acute care, outpatient, or anywhere in between.

This unique course teaches SLPs the why's and how's of incorporating a body systems approach to caring for patients with suspected dysphagia. Participants will learn essential knowledge for the SLP, how body systems function and interact, and how to incorporate this knowledge into patient care. Functional implementation of this approach is applied through the use of a case study that is infused throughout the course.

What you'll learn

  • Essential knowledge for the SLP
  • Considerations of body systems in the areas of swallowing assessment and management
  • Effects of dysphagia on body systems
  • How to apply a body systems approach in your own practice
