No judgment, just support.
Great question! CAMP isn't right for everyone, so I want to make sure it's a good fit for you!
Modern MedSLP CAMPs, or Clinical Applications Mentoring Programs, offer a MODERN way for SLPs to learn.
Each CAMP is a focused, month-long learning experience where you'll complete on-demand modules and get the support of live mentoring calls.
To keep you on the path to mastery, concepts will build on what you learned the week prior. You'll also be given calls to action to apply your new knowledge in practice.
Read more about CAMPs here, and check out the details below to help you decide whether it's a good time for you to be a CAMPer.
PS, Have you taken the courses in my Acute Care Bundle or Acute Care Specialty Track? Since the on-demand learning components are similar, CAMP Acute Care may not be the perfect fit for you; please email me if you want some guidance before you decide. I'm happy to help!
This virtual CAMP is designed for SLPs who appreciate the convenience of self-paced learning but who also learn best with mentoring and interactive learning methods. It's really, really helpful for people who also benefit from being held accountable so that procrastination doesn't kick in!
CAMP is not for SLPs who can't commit to the program timeframe or for people who want self-paced learning without the mentorship program. In that case, I recommend a self-paced course instead.
There are many benefits of joining a CAMP! To name a few:
... way less expensive than traveling to attend a live talk, or for other online mentoring programs
... engaging, interactive learning via a mentorship forum and live mentoring calls
... CAMPs use a "flipped classroom" model, which can help you retain the information better (source)
... on-demand modules can be completed at your pace
... more in-depth learning, with clinical applications and calls to action
... neworking and making connections with SLP colleagues
... and so many more!
Generally, CAMP runs for a calendar month. Each CAMP is broken down into manageable on-demand modules and two live mentoring sessions.
You'll have an additional 2 weeks from the last official day of CAMP to complete any remaining lessons, the survey, and the form for a certificate and ASHA CE reporting.
The number and length of on-demand modules varies depending on the CAMP topic. Most modules are 2 hours or less.
Live calls are usually about every 2 weeks during CAMP, and each call is ~1 hour 15 minutes long.
When you sign up for CAMP, you'll have one-year access to the on-demand modules after CAMP ends. This way, you can revisit lessons at your own pace even after you've graduated from CAMP.
Brooke Richardson, MS, CCC-SLP runs every CAMP. Brooke is an American SLP-- yep, still practicing!-- who has been caring for adults with complex medical needs since 2009, and has started numerous communication and swallowing programs in the ICU & acute care settings. You can read more about Brooke here.
As a practicing clinician and trusted mentor, now with years of teaching experience under her belt, Brooke noticed a huge gap in SLP education, things like:
SLPs not having enough mentorship during or after the education process; lots of boring or fluffy continuing education courses; no carryover of what was learned in a classroom; expensive certifications; and lost income when traveling for in-person courses. SLPs deserve better!
Why not get the benefits of mentorship with the convenience of online learning?!
Thus, Modern MedSLP CAMPs were born.
While I'd love to be able to guarantee a promotion or a raise, I'm unfortunately not a fortune teller (otherwise I'd have won the lotto by now!). What I can guarantee is that you'll be given the tools, education, and support you need to understand the CAMP topic and get you well on your way on the path of competence.
Nope! And honestly? You don't need those things to practice! You do get a certificate of completion for every CAMP and every course you take. Most, if not all, of my CAMPs and courses are also registered for ASHA CEUs; see the details on each page.

Listen, life happens. If you sign up in good faith and an emergency happens, please send me an email right away so I can help to make accommodations for you, which may mean extending your access to modules without ASHA CEU reporting. Please don't wait until after CAMP has ended to contact me.
YES! I offer mentoring outside of CAMPs.
If you want mentoring -- or just to ask questions about a challenging case you have, send me an email to see if I have expertise that meets your needs. If so, we'll take it from there! My rates are $75 for a half-hour of my expertise. You can read more about mentoring here and learn more about my clinical expertise here.
